Mourir Auprès de Toi

Spike Jonze: Mourir Auprès de Toi on Nowness.com.

Mourir Auprès de Toi (To Die By Your Side), unveiled last week on nowness.com, is a beautiful new short film from the legendary Spike Jonze. Following on from the Absolut sponsored I’m Here and his recent collaboration with the Beastie Boys, the short is the latest in a series of films that has seen Jonze blow off some creative steam after the five year slog that was Where The Wild Things Are. Over a six month period, 3,000 pieces of hand cut felt were used to animate the story of Mourir Auprès de Toi. The talented hands behind the felt belong to French handbag maker Olympia Le-Tan. Jonze and Le-Tan met in Paris through a mutual friend and the project was born after Jonze spotted some scraps of felt Le-Tan had in her bag. While I’m always eagerly awaiting the announcement of a new Jonze directed feature, his output over the last couple of years has been consistently original, exciting and inspiring. Mourir Auprès de Toi is no exception.
